The Behavioral Rehabilitation process can take some time to instill within the horse, depending upon the severity of the behavior. After personally and privately working with horses on a one-on-one basis, I have found that my training techniques of positive reinforcement and confidence-building have effectively corrected issues with horse and rider. I tailor-fit each program to coincide with the issues at hand so that behavior is addressed directly and modified. With this in mind, I combine numerous training techniques to communicate my intent to the horse. By doing this, the training regiment constantly evolves to create the positive training environment needed for these special situations. Each case is carefully assessed and approached with the horse and owner's best interest in mind.
Starting Youngsters (1 to 3 Years)
Colt-starting, under my definition, includes ground work and handling of the colt to ingrain positive human contact. This makes any future training easier on horse and rider because the basic cues and commands are already started through the ground work. The horse gains confidence in and understanding of his handler without a lot of negative experiences. The horse is also desensitized during this time period to start the "grounding process" to ensure a confident, quiet horse in the future.
Boarding and Training & Consignment
New Horizons will consign a limited number of horses during the year. Under consignment, horses are ridden on trail at facility, offered for riding lessons, promoted at public trail rides and advertised on this site and others for exposure to potential buyers. There are 2 options offered for consignment which can be found on the contact page. Consignment horses are required to have current coggins and are subject to boarding fees.
$950 for 30 days of training; $1,150 for 60 days.
Boarding for horses: pasture board, $150; stall board, beginning at $250.
Protect Your Horse, Too!
We can take care of micro-chipping for you, and also register them with Netposse, NIP and AVID. Cost for chipping: $50 per horse.
Desensitizing can be taught at any age of the horse. Whatever the "spook" may be, there is always a training exercise to fix the problem as long as there are no physical contributing factors causing it: blindness, neurological, etc. A horse that has been taught to look and analyze the situation before blowing up and reacting to it, makes it safer for both horse and rider.
This service is offered as a desensitizing technique and also for those who would like mounted shooting or hunting from horseback. Hearing protection for horses and rider is always required.
Riding Lessons (Any Age)
I teach a balanced riding technique that allows you to really get in tune with your horse. This technique opens a door of communication that is easily understood by your horse almost instantaneously. By learning this way, you will become more confident in the saddle, and your horse will become more sensitive to your commands.
$25 an hour.
Conditioning for Horses
Do you not have a lot of time to ride? Is your horse idle for months at a time, and then need a refresher course before you can enjoy riding? I offer conditioning when the rider cannot. Keep your horse's mind and body in tune with this service. It saves time and frustration on those beautiful days you want to just saddle and go!
